The Best Fruit Salad Recipe – Learn Like a Pro

It was entirely by mistake that I developed this simple homemade fruit salad recipe. In a rush, I dashed to the grocery store to pick up some ingredients for dinner. I decided to make a fruit salad, so I simply grabbed some fresh grapes and berries. This fruit salad came about—it’s so easy, yet so delicious.

Even now, many years later, people still complement me on this unintentional fruit salad I make, especially around holidays and cookouts.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds strawberries cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 pints blueberries
  • 2 pounds seedless grapes any color, cut into quarters
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • Juice from half a lemon

Instructions

Toss everything together in a big bowl.
Gently mix everything together.

Serve after two hours of refrigeration with a cover. Keep refrigerated.

Notes

This recipe is naturally dairy-free, vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free.

To make a more natural version, use honey instead of sugar. Alternately, use lemon juice alone and remove the sugar completely. I’ve done this before, and my adorable kids ate it all up without even noticing.

Make use of ripe fruit. For fruit salads, ripe fruit works better than tart, stiff fruit since it is a little sweeter and softer.

To enable the flavors to meld and the fruit to juice, refrigerate for two hours prior to serving.

For three to seven days, keep covered in the refrigerator.

You cannot freeze fruit salad. Thawed fruit will become mushy.
