Super Sloppy Joe Dip Recipe: Hearty and satisfying, sloppy Joe hot dip is the perfect food for a hungry audience on game day, during a birthday celebration, or any other occasion. Making Sloppy Joes into a dip is a fun little variation to this traditional family favorite dinner, which has always been a hit with youngsters!

I adore a variety of homemade dips—cheesy, chunky, warm, or cold—and I never pass up the opportunity to taste them all. In my opinion, starting from scratch while making a dip is always the greatest option. You don’t need to be concerned about preservatives, additives, hidden ingredients, or excessive sodium levels. You get to decide what ingredients go into it and alter it to suit your preferences.

Among my favorite homemade spicy dips is this sloppy Joe dip. Traditional sloppy Joe components like brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, ground beef, and a ton of flavor-enhancing spices are used to make it. This is a budget-friendly appetizer because of the low-cost components, most of which you probably already have in your kitchen!

Super Sloppy Joe Dip Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 Tablespoons Butter, unsalted
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, grated fine
  • 1 small Red Pepper, minced
  • 1 small onion, (sweet) minced
  • 2 Tablespoons Flour, all purpose
  • 2 Pounds Ground Beef (90/10)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes/ or cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 3/4 cup Ketchup
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1.5 cups cheddar cheese, divided

Instructions

Melt butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion, garlic, and red pepper, and sauté for about 5 minutes, or until softened.

After sprinkling the flour on top, thoroughly mix it in.

Incorporate the ground beef along with salt, pepper, cayenne, chili powder, brown sugar, mustard, two tablespoons of ketchup, and tomato paste. Cook for around fifteen minutes, or until the meat turns brown. When the beef is browned, use a spatula to split it up into little pieces.

Over medium-high heat, melt butter and olive oil in a large skillet. Add the onion, garlic, and red pepper, and sauté until the ingredients are softened, about 5 minutes.

Sprinkle the flour on top and stir it in well.

Add the ground beef, tomato paste, two tablespoons of ketchup, brown sugar, cayenne, chili powder, and brown sugar. Simmer for about 15 minutes, or until the meat is well-done. Using a spatula, break up the browned beef into small pieces.

Take it off the heat and transfer it to an oven-safe dish, or if you plan to serve it straight from the skillet, leave it there.
Make tiny polka dots on the dip’s top using a little spoon, then insert a piece of cheddar cheese into each one. For these cheese pockets, you will need around half a cup of chedder cheese.

Over the top of the dip, scatter the remaining cheese.

Put in the oven for five to seven minutes, or until the cheese is melted and browned.
Accompany with crisp chips or toast slices.

Notes

To make this ahead of time you will prepare the sloppy joe mixture then store in the fridge in a sealed container until ready to use. Warm the meat either in a skillet on top of the stove or in the microwave. Once hot, place in the baking dish, add the cheese pockets and broil to melt the cheese.

You could also bake the meat topped with cheese in the oven for 30 minutes at 300° or until the cheese is golden brown and the sloppy joe dip is heated throughout.

FAQs AND QUESTIONs

How do I make this dip using a slow cooker

The meat and spices should be browned before being transferred to the slow cooker and the remaining ingredients added. After the sloppy Joe mixture has finished cooking, simmer on low for a few hours, then add the cheese and let it melt over the fire. Under the broiler, it will get nice and gooey and melty but not brown and frothy.

Can this dip be made ahead of time?

Make this dip ahead of time for maximum benefit. Toss together the sloppy Joe ingredients and put it in the refrigerator in an airtight container. Before adding the cheese pockets, reheat it in a skillet or the microwave when you’re ready to use it. To melt the cheese, put it under the broiler.
