Spicy Shrimp Tacos Recipe

As for me, I don’t know about you, but whenever I make tacos, I have to make sure that they are accompanied by something that is just fantastic. I’m going to share with you our go-to recipe for guacamole, as well as a classic margarita that goes perfectly with these shrimp tacos.

Ingredients

Spicy Shrimp Tacos:

  • 2lb. jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/8 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ancho chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 16 corn tortillas
  • cooking spray
  • optional: fresh pico de gallo

Cabbage Slaw:

  • 2 cups green cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups purple cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • salt & pepper to taste

Avocado Crema:

  • 2 avocados
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • salt to taste

Instructions

Citrous and Cilantro Slaw: Green cabbage, purple cabbage, two tablespoons of lime juice, cilantro, honey, salt, and pepper should be added to a big bowl. After giving it a light toss, set it aside.

In a food processor, combine the following ingredients: avocado, garlic, a quarter cup of cilantro, cumin, red pepper flakes, one and a half tablespoons of lime juice, red wine vinegar, olive oil, and salt. Make sure the mixture is completely smooth and resembles a purée or dressing. Put aside for later.

Put one teaspoon of garlic powder, one teaspoon of smoked paprika, half a teaspoon of cumin, one eighth of a teaspoon of salt, one quarter of a teaspoon of ancho chilli powder, and one quarter of a teaspoon of powdered black pepper into a small bowl. Perform a stir to combine all of the components.

Put the shrimp in a basin, season them with the spice mixture, and toss them so that they are coated. Bring a large skillet that does not have a pan to a medium-high heat. When the pan is hot, add avocado oil, and then immediately add shrimp that has been seasoned.

Cook for two to three minutes on each side. The shrimp should be removed from the pan and placed on a plate to rest. Corn tortillas can be heated by heating a skillet over medium-high heat, spraying both sides of the tortilla with cooking spray, and then cooking it for one to two minutes on each side until it gains a browned consistency.

Prepare the Spicy Shrimp Tacos by placing two tablespoons of avocado crema, one-third of a cup of slaw, two to four shrimp,  on a corn tortilla that has been heated.

Note

It is essential to bring your skillet to a high temperature in order to achieve the desired level of doneness for these shrimp. For this purpose, I prefer to use a cast-iron pan because it is able to keep the heat consistent; but, any heavy-duty skillet will do the job.

It is imperative that you ensure that it is heated on high for a minimum of two minutes before to adding the shrimp. Because of the heat, the shrimp will be cooked, which will give them a wonderful outside, and the heat will also retain all of the juice inside, which will make them nice and moist.
