To me, salmon just makes sense! It’s an easy fish to prepare, and even though you can really play around with the flavours, it has a lovely flavour all by itself! It’s an excellent choice for a quick dinner on a hectic evening because it cooks quickly and tastes really good!

Ingredients

  • 4 salmon steaks
  • ¼ cup soy sauce (low sodium)
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon ginger (minced)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • sesame seeds (optional)
  • green onions (chopped, for garnish)

Instructions

Mix the soy sauce, maple syrup, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, and pepper flakes in a shallow dish or baking dish. Turn the salmon over in the dish so that it is covered in glaze. Allow to marinate for at least one hour, covered with plastic wrap.

Cook the fish on both sides until it reaches your desired doneness. I gave each side of mine four minutes. Brush the salmon with the leftover glaze on both sides while it’s grilling.

Serve with a side of salad or vegetables and a sprinkle of sesame seeds and green onions.

Notes

The time for marinating the salmon is not included in the total.

When kept in the refrigerator, grilled salmon steaks can be preserved for up to three days. After cooking, make sure to put it in the refrigerator as soon as possible. Its shelf life can be increased by freezing it as well. You can freeze salmon for two to three months if you wrap it in aluminium foil and then put it in freezer bags.

Bake It Instead

If you’re not as adept at using a grill, you can definitely bake these! After preheating the oven to 400 degrees, put the salmon steaks on a baking sheet or pan that has been lightly oiled. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until a fork easily pierces the salmon! Remember that cooking times will change depending on the thickness and size of the salmon steaks.

How To Serve

I really enjoy eating from a colourful plate! Because salmon has a great colour to begin with, presenting it with a salad or some veggies with rice will make for a really elegant meal! Here are some suggestions:
