Fried Chicken Tacos Recipe -Step by Step Guide

INGREDIENTS :

  • 12 ounce package frozen (uncooked) breaded chicken tenders
  • olive oil
  • salt
  • 1/4 small red cabbage, finely shredded
  • 8 corn tortillas, use 16 tortillas if you prefer to double them
  • salsa of your choice

PICKLED ONION

  • 1 small red onion, peeled and minced
  • 1 lime, juiced

LIME CILANTRO CREMA SAUCE

  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 1/3 cup buttermilk
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • handful of cilantro* finely chopped
  • 1 pinch salt

INSTRUCTIONS :

Warm the oven up to 375F.

Set up a baking sheet with the tenders on it. You don’t have to do this, but I like to lightly brush with olive oil and salt. Bake for 25 minutes, or until the inside is 165F and the outside is golden and crisp.

Add the lime juice to the chopped onion, stir it around, and set it aside.

Mix the crema ingredients in a bowl with a whisk, and then taste it to see if anything needs to be changed. Put away.

Heat a cast iron pan or comal over medium-high heat for a few minutes until it’s very hot.

This will help you put together your tacos. Heat the corn tortillas one at a time until one side is lightly browned.

Then flip them over and heat the other side. It won’t take long, so keep a close eye on them. Put them on a plate and put a cloth over them to keep them warm.

Place a layer of lettuce on top of each taco, then a fried chicken tender.

Add cilantro lime sauce on top of the chicken tender, and then sprinkle pickled onions on top of that. Add cilantro leaves to finish.
Serve right away with any salsa you like.

NOTES :

*If you don’t like cilantro, you can add chili powder or chipotle chili powder to your crema instead for a little extra heat. Taste and add.
