Easy Baked Jalapeno Poppers (Keto)

He’ll be pondering his life decisions and breathing fire while the kids and I are contentedly gorging on something.

But through time, he’s gradually developed a tolerance for spicy food, and at last, he’s beginning to even somewhat enjoy it. Thankfully, I have a strong taste for heat and usually top almost anything with a dash of spicy sauce, jalapeño, or Tony’s.

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 jalapenos
  • 3 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • 4 slices bacon

INSTRUCTIONS

Cut jalapeños in half along their length. Using a spoon, carefully scrape off the seeds and membranes and discard. Refer to the note.

In a small bowl, add the cream cheese, cheddar, onion powder, and garlic powder. Stir to blend.

Divide the cheese equally among the jalapenos.

Halve the bacon pieces, then wrap half of the bacon around each jalapeño.

Air Fryer Method:

The air fryer should be heated for two minutes at 390 degrees.

Place the jalapenos in the air fryer basket in a single layer, leaving space between them. If your air fryer cannot fit all 8 halves at once, work in batches.

The bacon should air fry for ten minutes, or until it is as crisp as you prefer.

Oven Method:

Set the oven’s temperature to 400.

After the jalapenos are ready, put them on a rimmed baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy to your taste.

Notes:

It’s best to wear gloves when handling jalapenos to prevent skin burns from the peppers’ oils. After touching the peppers, thoroughly wash your hands if you don’t have gloves.

Are jalapeno poppers spicy?

Answering this one is difficult since different jalapenos have varying levels of heat, and you won’t be able to tell until you bite into one.

Having said that, the majority of the “heat” is found in the pepper’s seeds and membranes, which you will be scraping off before adding the cheese.

The filling of cream cheese and cheddar cheese also lessens the heat from the pepper. Dip them in my keto ranch dressing to turn up the heat even more!

There is some kick to these handmade jalapeño poppers, but not too much. Add some minced jalapeño to the cream cheese filling for more heat.
