Ingredients

  • 2 18-ounce Ghirardelli Brownie Mixes plus the ingredients to make the brownies: eggs, water and vegetable oil
  • 1 3.9-ounce box instant chocolate pudding mix
  •  cups whole milk
  • 1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 8-ounce containers frozen whipped topping (Cool Whip), thawed
  • 1 8-ounce bag Heath Milk Chocolate English Toffee Bits

Instructions

Turn the oven on to 325°F. A 9 x 13-inch baking pan should be lined with foil, with an inch or two of overhang on the short edges left to use as “handles” for removing the brownies from the pan once they have cooled. Apply nonstick cooking spray to the foil.

As directed on the package, make the brownie mixes, then transfer the batter into the prepared pan. After 45 minutes of baking, allow the brownies to cool fully. Cut the brownies into 1-inch squares after they have cooled.

Pudding mix, whole milk, and sweetened condensed milk should all be combined in a big basin. Add 8 ounces of whipped topping and fold in until smooth, leaving no streaks behind.

Half of the brownies should be in the bottom of the serving dish in a trifle bowl or large glass bowl. Spoon half of the pudding mixture onto the brownies, then top with ⅓ of the toffee bits from the bag. Then add half of the whipped topping container that is left. Layers should be repeated. Add the last ⅓ of the toffee pieces on top. For three to four hours before serving, cover and chill.

Notes

Depending on the size of your serving dish, you may have extra brownie squares which is no big deal because they’re perfect for snacking!

MAKE-AHEAD TIPS

This brownie trifle is the ideal make-ahead dessert for a gathering or potluck because it must be chilled for at least three to four hours.

This might simply be prepared the night before or even early in the morning of a gathering. If you intend to make it more than 3–4 hours in advance, I would wait to add the toffee bits to the top until right before the party.

Alternatively, you might prepare the ingredients in advance and assemble the trifle on the day of the celebration.

After baking, allow the brownies to cool before covering and storing them at room temperature for up to two days.

Combine the chocolate cream ingredients; store in the refrigerator for up to two days in an airtight container.

Cutting the brownies and layering the trifle before chilling it will only take a few minutes when it comes time to put everything together.

This summer, try making a brownie trifle. It might just end up being your new summertime fave!
