Best Healthy Chili Recipe (Turkey or Chicken) Recipe – Know the Secret Tips

When it comes to recipes, I don’t typically declare them to be the finest for whatever reason. To tell you the truth, if I am claiming that something is the best, then there is a very strong explanation for that. Most frequently because I have had numerous individuals test out a dish and tell me that it is the nicest thing they have ever eaten; this happens most frequently when I bake cookies.

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 medium red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 pound extra lean ground turkey or chicken (99%)
  • 4 tablespoons chili powder* (I used McCormick chili powder, which is very mild. Do not use spicy chili powder, and if using a different brand, start with 2 tablespoons)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, plus more to taste
  • 1 (28-ounce) can diced tomatoes or crushed tomatoes
  • 1 1/4 cups chicken broth
  • 2 (15 oz) cans dark red kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 (15 oz) can sweet corn, rinsed and drained
  • For topping: cheese, avocado, tortilla chips, cilantro, sour cream

Instructions

To brown the ground turkey, sauté it in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat, crumbling it with a spoon as it cooks. Transfer the liquid to a dish that has been lined with paper towels after draining off any excess liquid.
When the pan is hot, drizzle a small amount of olive oil into it and then add the onion, bell peppers, and jalapeños. Cook for around three to four minutes, until the onion becomes translucent and the peppers have become more tender. Continue to sauté for an additional thirty seconds after stirring in the garlic.
The cooked ground turkey should be added back into the mixture, along with the remaining ingredients, and then the mixture should be brought to a boil. Reduce the heat and cover the pan. Allow the chilli to simmer for approximately half an hour or up to an hour, stirring it occasionally to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan throughout the duration of the simmering process. The chilli should be ladled into bowls, and then your preferred toppings should be added.

Notes

I’ve had a couple feedback that the chilli is made with an excessive amount of heat — In this recipe, I used McCormick’s Chilli Powder, which is a very mild form of chilli powder. You should not use a chilli powder that is really spicy. Should you be using something else, I would recommend beginning with two to three tablespoons rather than four.

In order to prepare this dish using a slow cooker: Prior to adding the turkey and onions to the slow cooker, reduce the amount of chicken broth to half a cup and brown the turkey and onions. For three to four hours on high, or for seven to eight hours on low, cook it. The recipe for this is fantastic for a football party or a tailgate event!
