  • Set out two baking sheets and line them with parchment paper. Preheat the oven to 425°F. Put two oven racks in the oven’s upper and bottom thirds.
  • Cut the sweet potatoes lengthwise into planks that are ¼ to ½ inch thick. Vertically cut the planks into ¼- to ½-inch-thick sticks. Any very long sticks should be cut in half crosswise. In the oven, the smaller pieces will get crispier. The sweet potatoes should be put in a big basin.
  • Mix the cornstarch and water in a small bowl until the cornstarch is completely dissolved. Finally, sprinkle the salt, paprika, and garlic powder over the sweet potatoes. Using your hands, toss to coat, making sure the spices are dispersed equally.

  • Leaving some room between each fry, evenly distribute the sweet potato fries on the baking sheets that have been prepared. Give it a liberal drizzle of olive oil.
  • Bake until the underside begins to blister, about 15 minutes. Take out of the oven and flip the fries using tongs. Drizzle a little additional oil on them if they appear dry.
  • Place the pans back in the oven, turning them over from front to back and rearranging their places on the racks. Fries should be baked for a further 7 to 12 minutes, or until crisp and golden.
  • Take out of the oven and allow to cool down a little. Serve after tossing with additional paprika, garlic powder, and salt to taste.

How to Make Sweet Potato Fries

  • You can find the complete crispy baked sweet potato fries recipe with measurements at the bottom of this post. For now, here’s an overview of how it goes:

1. Cut the sweet potatoes into thin matchsticks.

  • After thoroughly cleaning each sweet potato, put it on a chopping board. I like my sweet potatoes skin on, but you can peel them if you’d like. Because of its high fiber content, I believe the fries become crispier!

  • Slice every potato lengthwise into slabs measuring 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Next, cut those planks lengthwise to make matchsticks that are 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Thin matchsticks crisp up better than thicker ones, so take care not to cut them too thick. After slicing the fries, transfer them to a big bowl.

2. Use a cornstarch slurry.

  • Cornstarch plus water equals cornstarch slurry. Blend them until they are smooth, and then drizzle the blended mixture across the sweet potatoes.
  • The cornstarch coats the potatoes more evenly and gels on the outside, giving them a crispy crust when baked, thanks to the water suspension.

3. Season them up!

  • Add salt, paprika, and garlic powder to the fries.

  • The inherent sweetness of the potatoes is delectably contrasted with this spicy spice blend.

  • To enhance the spiciness of the fries, you can also sprinkle in small amount of cayenne pepper.

  • Toss to coat the fries with seasonings and cornstarch.

4. Arrange the fries on two baking sheets.

  • Overcrowding the pan with fries can cause them to steam and become softer rather than crisp and golden.

  • To ensure the fries have ample space, you’ll need two sizable baking sheets for this recipe.

  • Make sure to leave some room around each fry and line the pans with parchment paper before arranging the fries in single layer. Pour some olive oil over it.
