Air Fryer Orange Chicken Recipe – Easiest Recipe Ever
Having tried a wide variety of approaches to re-create Orange Chicken in the air fryer, I can confidently say that this recipe is the most successful one I’ve ever created! What is my hidden truth? After coating the chicken with potato starch and spraying it with avocado oil spray, I duplicate the “double fry” approach by cooking it TWICE in the air fryer to achieve the highest possible level of crispiness without sacrificing flavour.
Ingredients
Chicken
- 1 lb chicken thigh, boneless & skinless
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp white pepper
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp shaoxing wine
- 3 cloves garlic , grated
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 egg white
- 1.5 cup potato starch
Sauce
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup orange juice
- 1 tbsp orange zest
- 1/2 cup chicken stock
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1/2 tbsp cornstarch
Oils & Aromatics
- 1 tbsp vinegar
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp ginger, minced
- 2 tbsp neutral oil, I used avocado oil
- 1 tsp sesame oil, optional
Instructions
Salt, white pepper, soy sauce, shaoxing wine, shredded garlic and ginger, sesame oil, and egg white should be added to a bowl containing chicken that has been cut into pieces of two inches in length. To ensure that the seasonings and egg white are distributed equally, thoroughly combine the ingredients and marinade them for at least half an hour.
It is recommended that you prepare your sauce in advance by combining the following ingredients in a small bowl: soy sauce, orange juice, orange zest, chicken stock, brown sugar, and cornflour. Prepare your sauce by chopping the garlic and ginger, then setting them aside. Potato starch should be used to sprinkle the chicken pieces lightly.
You should first spray the tray of your air fryer with cooking spray (I prefer to use avocado oil spray), and then arrange the chicken in a single layer on the tray. After spraying the chicken with oil, roast it at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for ten minutes. After giving the chicken a shake to release any bits that are stuck, air fry it once more at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for eight minutes, or until it reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit and is crispy.
To prepare the garlic and ginger, heat two tablespoons of neutral oil in a big skillet or wok over high heat. Fry the garlic and ginger for fifteen seconds. Quickly add your sauce and stir it until it has thickened, which should take around one to two minutes. After that, include the vinegar into the mixture. Place your chicken back in the dish and toss it to mix. After the chicken has been coated, add a teaspoon of sesame oil as a finishing touch. To enjoy, serve with rice and savour!

Notes
In order to prevent the soy sauce from being overpowering, you should reduce the amount to roughly three tablespoons if you are using full strength soy sauce. You are free to substitute any other sweetener of your choosing for the honey. Because this recipe does not have the same level of sweetness as the classic orange chicken served at restaurants, you are free to adjust the amount of sweetener to your liking.
