Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ pound ground pork
  • 1 cup Italian breadcrumbs
  • ¾ cup Parmesan cheese (grated)
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • salt and pepper (to taste)
  • ½ cup mozzarella cheese (shredded)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley (chopped)

Instructions

Turn the oven on to 375°F, or 190°C. Grease a loaf pan or baking pan very lightly, or line it with parchment paper for effortless removal.

Ground beef, ground pork, eggs, milk, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped onion, minced garlic, and breadcrumbs should all be combined in a big bowl. Add salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and ½ cup marinara sauce. Don’t overmix; just stir everything until it’s properly blended.

Spoon the mixture into the loaf pan that has been preheated and form it into a loaf. To make sure the mixture is compact, lightly press down.

Drizzle the leftover ½ cup of marinara sauce onto the meatloaf.

After placing the meatloaf in the oven, bake it for fifty to sixty minutes. The meatloaf needs to be thoroughly cooked, with an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).

Place the meatloaf back in the oven and top it with the shredded mozzarella cheese during the last few minutes of baking. Bake the cheese until it’s bubbling and melted.

Before slicing, take the meatloaf out of the oven and give it ten minutes to rest. This facilitates the meatloaf’s setting and eases slicing.

Add freshly cut parsley as a garnish. Slices of meatloaf can be served with mashed potatoes and more marinara sauce on the side, if preferred.

Notes

For a deeper taste, combine ground beef and pork, or stay with just one variety if you’d rather.

For added flavor, use Italian breadcrumbs or mix plain breadcrumbs with Italian herbs.

For a fresh taste, experiment with other cheeses like Asiago or provolone.

For an added personal touch, prepare your own marinara sauce or select a high-quality brand.

To add even more flavor, try adding some fresh herbs and adjusting the Italian seasoning to your taste.

Oven durations can vary, so use a meat thermometer to check the meatloaf.

For a complete supper, serve the meatloaf with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a salad.

Savor cold or reheated leftover meatloaf on sandwiches.
