Easy Turtle Candy Recipe – Learn Like a Pro
Ingredients
- 1 pound pecan halves (more or less)
- FOR THE CARAMEL
- 2 11-ounce packages of caramel bits
- 4 tablespoons heavy cream
FOR THE CHOCOLATE:
- 1 large bag milk chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons vegetable or coconut oil
Instructions
These were really simple to put up! The best part is that you can cook without ever heating up the oven or using a saucepan. All you need is a few bowls that are safe to use in the microwave, some wax paper, and a little perseverance.
About 40 turtles should come out of this recipe. It’s not necessary to prepare all of your chocolate and caramel ahead of time. I’ll walk you through the process in two batches.
Start by covering your workspace with wax paper. To make it simpler to transfer the pieces of waxed paper later, feel free to arrange them on cookie sheets.
Fill a small bowl with the entire package of caramel bits. Pour in one or two teaspoons of heavy cream. Microwave on high for 30 second intervals, stirring in between, until creamy and smooth. Eliminate any lumps! While working on your chocolate, set aside to cool for a few minutes.
In a small bowl that is safe to microwave, place half of the chocolate chips. Add a spoonful of coconut oil or vegetable oil. Microwave until smooth and creamy, stirring after each 30-second increment. Remove any lumps by stirring. Put aside to cool.
Cluster four to five pecan halves together on the wax paper. Since you’re working on a half batch at a time, start with 20 clusters.

Put a dollop of caramel over top of every cluster.
Top each cluster with a teaspoon of melted chocolate once the caramel has begun to solidify.
If your wax paper is already on a cookie sheet, place it in the fridge to firm for 20 to 30 minutes. Before putting it in the refrigerator, carefully slide the candies and waxed paper onto the baking sheet if it isn’t already on one.
Melt the remaining chocolate and caramel for the second batch while the first batch is setting. All you have to do is keep on doing this until you have made all of your sweets.
Take the candies out of the refrigerator and give them more time to solidify. Keep enclosed in a sealed container. They have a four-week shelf life. They can be kept frozen for up to two months.
