7 Beautiful Flowers to Inspire Your Dream Garden

A garden that is blooming all year round can have a wide variety of flowers, from perennials that come back year after year to annuals that make a big impact for only one season. Strong ground cover plants address issues like preventing slopes from eroding, while flowering vines can clamber up a trellis or arbor to add vertical flair. Shrubs with flowers can also provide color, structure, and year-round form to your yard.

Hydrangeas in Heaven

Gregory Vinyard comments, “We always enjoy the abundance of hydrangeas in the front yards when we visit the Oregon coast—especially the beautiful blue colored flowers.” For weeks on end of blossoms, grow an Endless Summer hydrangea.

Charming Peach Poppy

We fell in love with the fruit trees and perennial gardens when we bought our house. We had no idea what would sprout in our gardens that first spring.

These peach poppies are my all-time favorite flower among all the exquisite ones that the previous owners painstakingly cultivated for decades. Jennifer Sigmon remarks, “I enjoy the way the sun was hitting them on this early June day.

Elegant Petals

This mother’s spoon-shaped petals add a breathtaking touch of elegance. According to Wendy Spierling, “I adore taking pictures of plants, especially when I use my Canon EOS 70D camera’s macro lens.”

Raining Tropical Flowers

Although there weren’t many chances to take pictures outside due to the rainy day, this potted hibiscus was right outside our kitchen door. I placed it so that the brilliant, light nature of the blooms would contrast with the gloomy woods behind the home.

“I stayed dry and took my time to capture the beauty of the wet flowers in the soft natural light of the late afternoon rain shower, shooting from just inside the doorway,” says Thomas Wetmore.

Berries in Bloom

Beautiful in its natural habitat, blackberries provide a source of fruit for a variety of avian and mammalian species, such as deer, foxes, and raccoons. During a trip at the Mineola Nature Preserve in Mineola, Texas, I came across this lovely cluster.

According to Joe Bob Hall, “the combination of the white flowers and green leaves against the completely black background is amazing.”

Magnificent Magnolia

To observe Japanese cherry blossoms, I traveled to Lexington, Kentucky’s Lexington Cemetery. Peggy Yaeger writes, “This magnolia capture was definitely my best picture of the day. Unfortunately, I did not get a great cherry blossom shot.”

Real Blue Flowers

The unique color of this blue poppy (Meconopsis) attracted my attention when I saw it in a conservatory at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. Because I was holding my camera by hand, I utilized a high ISO and a 24-105 mm lens on my Canon 5D Mark III. Sally Oberbeck remarks, “The image’s sharpness, dark background, and color appeal to me.

Beautiful Lotus Flower

I captured this image at Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Gardens in Washington, D.C. of a lotus blossom and some nearby seedpods. James Stone remarks, “This shot offers a striking composition, vibrant colors, a contrast between pink and green, and fine detail in the lovely blossom.

Violet-colored Passionflower

For many years, I have been a photographer, specializing in the beauty that exquisite flowers bring. The distinctive qualities of the purple passionflower have made me adore it.

When I saw this vine growing in the flower yard next to an antique store, my love for it blossomed enormously. Joe Bob Hall writes, “I was able to capture this mature bloom along with a bud that will soon open.” See which are the top ten hummingbird-friendly vines.

Lilies in Water

One summer, I visited San Francisco, California, and observed beautiful water lilies. A few of these lovely flowers’ life cycles are visible in this picture.
