Most Adorable Dog Breeds That Always Look Like Puppies: Research shows that dogs make humans happier, more active and even more patient and responsible. And when does this seem to be the truest? The puppy years!

Thankfully, there are tons of dog breeds that always have that adorable puppy face. But while these always puppies look forever young, pet experts want caregivers to remember that they need adult care and attention when they grow out of that puppy phase.

Most Adorable Dog Breeds That Always Look Like Puppies

1. Jack Russell Terrier

If you grew up watching PBS as a kid, you may remember the famous Jack Russell Terrier named Wishbone, who went on adventures with his human friends. Wishbone remained ageless throughout his life.

Bred to hunt foxes, Jacks are brilliant and lively. Due to their healthy independence, though, they can be tough to train, so humans new to cohabiting with dogs wouldn’t be an ideal fit. They are known for their high energy and need regular exercise.

2. Lancashire Heeler

The Lancashire Heeler dates back to the 17th century, but its exact history is unknown. Nowadays, the little pup is popular in the United States, Australia, Sweden and the Netherlands. The Lancashire Heeler also goes by the name Ormskirk Terrier. This ageless pup is rare, and only 5,000 are known to be alive worldwide.

They are known to be affectionate and intelligent, according to the AKC. The organization also notes that Lancashire Heelers are alert, versatile and always happy. “Heelers have been known to draw back their lips in an effort that emulates a human smile,” the AKC says.

  • Temperament: Affectionate, Versatile, Intelligent
  • Height: 10-12 inches
  • Weight: 9-17 pounds
  • Life Expectancy: 12-15 years

3. Miniature Pinscher

The “King of Toys” is the 8- to 10-pound Miniature Pinscher. Known for their compact physiques and lustrous coats, the Miniature Pinscher only grows to weigh 10 pounds.

Min Pins are excellent watchdogs, as they are intelligent and fearless. They are also great companions because they love fun. They can be immensely proud, though, so training is recommended.

  • Temperament: Fearless, Fun-Loving, Proud
  • Height: 10-12.5 inches
  • Weight: 8-10 pounds
  • Life Expectancy: 12-16 years

4. Pomsky

Another mixed breed, the Pomsky is rare but gaining in popularity thanks to social media. They grow to be 10 to 15 inches tall and weigh 20 to 30 pounds. “There are many Pomeranian-Husky mixes that look like small fluffy Huskies,” Wardini says. “Well-bred dogs will have the coloring of Huskies with the fluffy fur of Pomeranians.”

While their small size makes them perfect for apartments and condos, it is worth noting that the Pomsky will need exercise daily. Some have more energy than others, but humans should expect to schedule at least an hour of exercise a day for these cute dogs.

5. Golden Cocker Retriever

While not technically a standard breed, this mix of a Golden Retriever and Cocker Spaniel is beloved by many. They are great for families, active couples and new dog owners and are known for being friendly, social, enthusiastic and eager to please.

“Some people believe this dog breed ages backward because there is no single identification factor on the age of a Golden Cocker Retriever,” Scott says. “Their eyes remain as bright and innocent, their ears cute and droopy, and their size as small and compact as in their puppy days.

6. Golden Retriever

OK, we know, Golden Retrievers grow to be quite large, but their childlike glee makes them act just like big puppies. They are famous for their devotion and eager-to-please behavior.

“They take a joyous and playful approach to life and maintain this puppyish behavior into adulthood,” the AKC says.

  • Temperament: Friendly, Intelligent, Devoted
  • Height: 23-24 inches (male), 21.5-22.5 inches (male)
  • Weight: 65-75 pounds (male), 55-65 pounds (female)
  • Life Expectancy: 10-12 years
